Australia’s warm and sunny climate is a haven for nudist beaches.
In New South Wales, there are 23 beaches where you can skinny-dip and sun-bake in the nude without being arrested for public indecency.
Here are five of the best nudist beaches in NSW:
1. Lady Bay Beach
Lady Bay Beach is one of the most popular spots for nude swimmers. Tucked between South Head and Camp Cove, this tiny beach is a designated nudist location in Sydney Harbour National Park. Bathing suits are of course optional at Lady Bay – and the beach also boasts spectacular views while still a relatively quiet area.
2. Birdie Beach
The stunning Birdie Beach is another ‘clothes optional’ hotspot only an hour and a half away from Sydney. As well as a nude dip, you can also camp the night with toilet and cooking facilities.
3. Cobblers Beach
Also in Sydney Harbour National Park is Cobblers Beach, a place close to the harbour where nude-bathers flock. There is a bus in Wynyard which takes revellers within a few minutes walk of the beach, where snorkelling is also popular.
4. Werrong Beach
An hour south of Sydney in the Royal National Park is Werrong Beach. It is a remote and secluded nude swimming beach with scenic coastal views, but there is a challenging walking track to get to it.
5. Armands Bay Beach, South Coast
Armands Beach was declared legally ‘clothes optional’ by Bega Valley Shire Council in November 1993, and has been rated by experts as one of the ‘prettiest’ nude beaches in the world. It is located 10 kilometres south of Bermagui on the Bega/Tathra road. However it does not have toilets or facilities.
