Asparagus has gotten a bad wrap in the past due to its reputation for making one’s pee a bit… whiffy.
And it isn’t any old odour either – asparagus is well known for creating a very specific smell when you go to the toilet. If you’ve smelled it, you know what that is.
The thing is – most people can’t actually smell it!
A study published in the BMJ Christmas Edition found that 58% of men, and 61.5% of women were unable to detect the characteristic ‘asparagus’ stench.
It’s suspected that this comes down to genes – where much like hating coriander – chances are you got it from your mum and dad!
Gee thanks, guys.
