Your fashion choice could be fatal

Think twice before copying the catwalk looks!

Choosing baggy trackpants over the latest catwalk trends is better for your health, according to new research.

A study by the British Chiropractic Association (BCA) revealed 33 per cent of women are unaware their fashion choices have an impact on their back or neck health.

The research found the top five clothing culprits were skinny jeans, oversized bags worn on one side of the body, coats with large fluffy hoods, high heels and backless shoes.

‘Some of the most popular items of clothing can have a hidden health impact,’ BCA chiropractor, Tim Hutchful, said.

‘While overloaded and heavy handbags are a common culprit, some more unexpected items like skinny jeans can also wreak havoc – they restrict free movement in areas such as the hips and knees, affecting the way we hold our bodies. New trends such as asymmetric hemlines, oversized sleeves and hoods and heavy jewellery can also create problems.’

Now there’s no need to ransack your wardrobe just yet. Like everything in life, moderation is key. Give your body a break from painful heels by wearing supportive sole flats during the day. Still flaunt your figure in skinny jeans, but don’t do it everyday- comfortable cotton tights or jeggings will give you the same envious curves, with a bit more comfort!
