When officers stopped the 50-year-old woman they were not expecting anything out of the ordinary. However they got exactly that when they asked the woman if she had anything in her bag.
Matter-of-factly, the South Brisbane resident said she had a koala in her backpack, and handed over the green canvas bag.
Understandably sceptical, the officers zipped open the bag to reveal the adorable furry face of a 6-month-old koala joey.

The woman claimed she had found the joey abandoned the day before and was looking after it.
Officers took the Joey back to the station and called the RPSCA Ambulance to come get the baby, who is protected under the Nature Conservation Act.
‘He’s been on fluids but is doing well and will shortly be going out to a carer,’ said RSPCA Qld spokesperson Michael Beatty.
The RSPCA is urging people who find lost and injured animals not to attempt handling them.
‘Please call our animal emergency hotline on 1300 ANIMAL. Often the animal may have no obvious signs of injury but it can have internal injuries that need immediate attention.’
