Since, the adorable mixed breed has recovered, been renamed Peanut and now she’s the one doing the rescuing!

Ordinarily shy, Peanut began barking uncontrollably and running up and down the stairs at her Michigan, US home until her owner let her outside, according to CBS News.

Outside, she raced to an open field behind the house and stopped in front of a ditch where a naked little girl was curled up in a ball and shivering.

‘By the time the ambulance and police arrived, the little girl could only say one thing – ‘doggie,” the dog’s owner said in a letter to the shelter where they adopted the pup.

‘Thanks to Peanut, a little girl’s life was saved.’

Michigan’s Delta County Sherrif’s Office confirmed the family’s story in a news statement , crediting the canine for alerting her owner to the child’s presence.

The little girl was uninjured and taken to hospital, while police officers looked for her parents who were eventually located at a house nearby.
