When staff came across an unlabeled box at Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport in Lebanon airport, they weren’t sure what to expect.

The box was 42cm tall, had a few holes poked into the sides and was bound for Syria.

It remained unopened for seven days until a judge granted permission for the box to be opened.

Inside were three barely alive Siberian tiger cubs who were dehydrated, starving, infected by maggots and covered by their own filth.

The cubs came from Ukriane and were allegedly being sold to a zoo in Syria.

Luckily, a judge intervened and ordered the tigers be released.

Animals Lebanon rescued the cubs and took them to a vet. The tigers grew stronger thanks to the efforts of dedicated staff and will remain under the care of Animal Lebanon.

“Thank you for all of your help in making this possible. So many people went above and beyond to make sure the right thing is and the tigers stopped from entering the black market!” Animals Lebanon wrote on Facebook.
