A mother has admitted to hating her one-year-old son’s name, asking for advice about possibly changing it.

Speaking to online forum Mumsnet, the anonymous mum said she was tossing up whether to christen him with a new name at the 12-month mark.

‘I had a name picked out for my son, that I had always planned to call him,’ she began.

‘After giving birth, I found out no one in my family approved of the name Jarrah… I instead chose a random name [Ezra] that the doctor suggested to me.’

The woman went on to explain the name Jarrah had a special meaning to her and confesses to hating his real name she put on his birth certificate.

‘[It’s] an Australian name that refers to a type of eucalyptus tree and means “tall and strong” in the local Aboriginal language,’ she explained.

The woman said she decided to change his name after ‘heartache and soul searching’, mostly because she hates even telling people his name is Ezra.

‘He’s at the 12-month mark, if I change his name now it will forever show on his birth certificate and I will have to explain to him as an adult how I misnamed him as a child,’ she added.

‘Has anyone else been through this and has it affected their child later in life?’

Many commenters encouraged the mother to follow her heart and change her son’s name.

‘I think you should go for it,’ one person said. ‘We are all a little bonkers after birthing, so I totally get you.’

But another warned her not to mess with her child’s name, writing: ‘Get a goldfish. Call it the name you like. Leave your child’s name alone.’
