Meghan Markle has been branded ‘shameful’ for making an appearance at Trooping of Colour after not being seen at all during US President Trump’s UK state visit.

Writing a piece for the Daily Mail, journalist and TV personality Piers Morgan didn’t hold back from criticising the new mum.

Meghan Markle came out on Saturday (June 8 2019) for Trooping the Colour, the first time she’s been seen publicly since introducing baby Archie on May 8.

Morgan criticised the American royal for appearing at the event after being “MIA” during Trump’s three-day visit when “virtually every other senior royal, including her husband Prince Harry” came out for the US presidents’s visit.

“She missed the state banquet, she missed the palace photo-ops, she missed all the D-Day commemoration ceremonies,’ write Morgan, before adding. “But then, the moment Trump had gone, Meghan suddenly popped up at the Trooping of the Colour, in an open-top carriage, looking in radiant good health and with a permanently beaming grin.”

Morgan also commented that Markle instead spent her time at the “lavishly decorate” Frogmore Cottage at the “British tax-payer expense.”

A state visit is a formal visit by a head of state, usually at the invitation of the Queen. Trump is only the third US to be invited for a state visit. The last was Barack Obama in 2011 and before that George Bush in 2003.

While visiting the UK, Trump was greeted by many of the royal family , including Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall at a State Banquet at the Palace hosted by the Queen. While Prince Harry spoke with the President’s daughter Ivanka Trump during a visit to Buckingham Palace on the first day of the visit.

In the past, Markle hasn’t held back about her opinions on the US President, labelling him “divisive” and “misogynistic” during a 2016 interview.

Markle was said to be at home during his visit looking after her newborn baby Archie. However, Morgan believes her reason for not being there runs deeper.

“My firm guess is that she deliberately snubbed Trump because she was absolutely terrified of being photographed with him and looking like she may be enjoying his company,” he wrote, later adding, “Well, I’ve got news for you Ms Markle: you’re in the firm now, and that means doing your duty when it is required.
