A glamorous Instagram couple have asked for donation from the public to fund their trip around Africa.
Cat and Elena, who have 34.1k followers on their Instagram page Another Beautiful Day, have asked for €10,000 (approx $16,300) to pay for their trip which will see them ride a tandem bike from Germany to Africa.
It’s not known if they are currently working to pay towards their trip themselves.
Writing on their Go Fund Me crowdfunding page, the pair said:
‘The funds we raise will go towards the bike and gear, food and accommodation (when needed), internet and SIM cards in every country to keep you up to date, insurance, emergencies. We need funds now for preparation as well as throughout our trip.’
In return for donations, they promised to keep people up to date with their adventures.
‘A celebration of life, as we ride freely across mountains, by the sea and through metropolitans. We will show the beauty of this planet and it’s inhabitants, but also the ugliness,’ they wrote.
The pair, who’ve already share photos of them travelling the world, including to exotic places such as Bali, Nepal, India, Italy, London and Paris, believe that the public should pay towards their latest adventure.
‘We can not do this on our own. We need you!’ they said.
The fundraising page has been up eight days but they’ve only raised €80 from five donations.
After posting the request to Instagram, Cat and Elena were met with mixed reviews.
‘Your mom works two jobs to pay for your trip, don’t you think that’s impacting her mental heath? It’s sad this isn’t all a joke, the self importance you have is ridiculous,’ said one person.
‘Someday I hope you realize you need to make something of yourself and not rely on others,’ wrote another.
When questioned why they needed so much money from strangers to pay for their trip, Cat and Elena defended their request.
‘The reason we put 10000€ as a goal is because we plan on being out there for a long time. A proper bike and gear is expensive (we will find the cheapest) and whatever money is left will be used consciously e.g emergencies… we are putting our whole life into this. Social media is taking a lot of time and energy from the “real” world and we don’t plan on being here too long,’ they defended.
