Mum welcomes baby boy days before she starts life-saving chemo

It was a race against the clock.

After giving birth to a healthy baby boy, journalist Elle Halliwell will launch immediately into chemotherapy treatment this week.

Elle’s remarkable journey began when in the space of two days earlier in the year she discovered she was pregnant, and also that she had a rare form of leukemia.

In a courageous decision Elle was determined to have her baby and fight cancer. So she postponed starting her chemotherapy treatment until after her son Tor Felix was born.

‘It will be in the next couple of days,’ Elle told The Daily Telegraph.

‘That is why we had to have him at 36 weeks on the dot and not 37 so that I could start the treatment as soon as possible.’

With the support of her hubby, Nick Biasotto, Elle is in high spirits.

‘I am pretty nervous but this is so much bigger than that to me. I reckon I’ll beat the odds again, I’ll be the cancer unicorn. I will be okay. It is just getting into the habit of it all.’
