A sick animal abuser has been spared jail after he tortured a defenceless kitten by burning it in an oven and trying to drown it.
Jiawen Zhang, 20, an engineering student from Brisbane, pleaded guilty to serious animal cruelty, The Courier Mail reports.
The student admitted to violently torturing the female kitten after snatching it from her mother, before embarking on a trail of disgusting abuse.
It was found Zhang threw the cat in a hot oven, ripped its teeth out, cut off its claws and attempted to flush it down the toilet.
He was caught red-handed when his housemate arrived home to find him hurting the cat.
The kitten – named Cinders – was taken to a veterinary clinic and has since been adopted into a loving family.
‘It’s been a long road, and one that still has some miles to go, but she’s here. She’s alive. She’s thriving. She’s such a little fighter,’ Toowong Family Vet said in a statement.
‘We are incredibly disappointed in the outcome of the court case, mainly due to how horrendous the injuries were that Cinders sustained, but also need to be grateful that this sweet little soul is still here, still living, breathing, and able to love and be loved.’
Nurse Tahlia Woodlock from Toowong Family Vet said Cinders will have ongoing health issues due to the trauma she experienced.
