When Lucy Schultz and her partner, Steve, decided it was time to add to their family, they did what many proud parents do and announced the new arrival with a touching photoshoot.
But the Colorado-based photographer hadn’t just given birth to a child – she’d adopted a new kitten!
Posing in a series of hilarious colour and black and white snaps, Lucy can be seen ‘giving birth’ to the kitten before swaddling her newborn and crying tears of joy.
‘On 1/10/18 we welcome our first baby kitten, a neutered male DLH. He is 22″ long and weighed 6 pounds 7 oz,’ Lucy wrote on her Facebook page.
‘He is already eating solid food. Name to be announced. We are so in love.’
The comical photoshoot – taken by Lucy’s friend Elizabeth Woods-Darby – has quickly gone viral, with over 40,000 comments.
‘A year ago, I was so excited for the day I’d get to have my own cat that I told my friend Elizabeth I was thinking of doing a baby/kitten announcement after I adopted,’ Lucy told Yahoo Lifestyle.
‘[She] immediately jumped on board with her own ideas, and it just snowballed from there, as things do when you’re with your BFF. We looked at some birth photos together and said, yeah, let’s take it to the next level.’
But the reaction to the photoshoot has been mixed, with some people finding it hilarious while others are disturbed.
‘That is weird as hell,’ one confused person wrote, before adding ‘good job though for getting the new kitty from an animal shelter.’
We wish the new parents the best of luck!
