A one-month-old baby was allegedly beaten and given a black eye by his mother before she left him alone to go on a date.
The little boy named Mykyta was found clinging to life at a home in Ukraine.
It’s reported that the boy’s battered body was discovered by concerned neighbours who were aware that the infant had been left alone.
According to Tetiana Prymak, a resident of the building, Mykyta was found in his cot with a black eye, dried blood all over his nose and was barely breathing.
‘We started changing his clothes and saw black bruises all over his body. One woman who was in the room feinted after seeing all this,’ she said.
Neighbours then phoned an ambulance who rushed the tot to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
It’s understood the boy may have a fractured skull but cannot be confirmed as his condition is too fragile to perform a thorough examination.
After visiting with baby Mykyta, Head of the Intensive Care Unit of Rivne Regional Children’s Hospital Mykhailo Kulik said ‘I have never seen a baby in such a terrible neglected state. I think his mother has never changed his clothes nor used diapers. His skin is in awful condition’.
Upon speaking with police, the baby’s mother admitted that she was ‘stressed out’ because of her baby’s constant crying, but rejected claims she was responsible for the injuries, instead blaming them on a ‘cold draft’.
However, after speaking with the woman, social service psychologist Yulia Tkachenko revealed ‘there is no doubts that the baby was brutally beaten up’.
Police have launched a criminal case for battery and failure to fulfil parental duties against the woman.
She faces up to five years in prison if found guilty.
