Animal Pikelets
Make a batch of your favourite pikelet batter and using a sauce bottle pour into a heated pan in animal shapes – start with a circle, then add the head, legs or ears by drizzling extra mixture with a spoon. Be as creative as possible. Serve as is or with jam.
Simple Sandwiches
Use cookie cutters to cut sandwiches into different animal shapes. Top with sultanas to make eyes.
Capsicum Octopus
Cut a small capsicum in half, place one half cut side down into a bowl of your favourite dip. Slice the remaining half into 8 strips and sit in dip to create legs of the octopus. Use some stuffed olive slices for eyes.
Snake Sausages
Wrap lightly browned thin sausages in strips of puff pastry. Bake in a hot oven until puffed and golden. Decorate one end to look like a snakes head. Serve hot or cold with tomato sauce.
Clam Cookies
Cute clam cookies can be made from biscuits sandwiched with tinted icing and a mint for a pearl sitting between. Add eyes with icing and cachous.
Fruit Stacks
Combine different coloured or types of fruit of a similar size by cutting into strips and reassembling in alternating layers to create striped effect. A fun way to get the kids to eat a variety of fruits.
Friendly Eggs
Hard-boiled eggs are a great snack. Trim the base of a shelled hard-boiled eggs, place cut side down on a plate. Cut strips of carrot into shapes for the feet, nose and use herbs for other features.
Mice Crackers
Create little mice on crackers from cheddar cheese wedges or portions. Add currants for eyes and a nose, sliced almonds for ears and carrot sticks for tails.
Water World
Top bowls of tomato or your favourite vegetable soup with fish shaped savoury snacks and chives to create an underwater scene.
Ladybug Apples
Cut apples in half and arrange on a plate. Dot the apple with some cream cheese and decorate with raisins. Use pretzels and raisins to make antennas.
