Pocket Fold Napkins

White linen is a classic for setting the table, but try something a bit different this year with this handy napkin fold.
Richard Whitbread

If using fabric napkins press them with an iron and use ironing starch spray to smooth out all wrinkles. Pressing between each fold also makes for a nice smooth and finely pressed completed napkin.

Step 1

1 Lay a cloth or paper napkin out on a flat surface and smooth it out.

Step 2

2 Fold the napkin in half vertically, making sure the corners are aligned.

Step 3

3 Fold it in half again to make a square.

Step 4

4 Take one layer of fabric from the top right corner and fold it to the left corner about one-third of the way. Press.

Step 5

5 Fold it over again to meet its own corner.

Step 6

6 Fold down the second layer of fabric from the top right to meet the line of the already folded over layer.

Step 7

7 Fold that layer over again to meet its own corner.

Step 8

8 Flip the napkin over and press.

Step 9

9 Fold the left side of napkin to the centre, press.

Step 10

10 Fold the left side of the napkin towards the centre line, tucking it under the left side folds. Press.

Step 11

11 Flip the napkin over. Press

Step 12

12 Insert cutlery.
