Three years after her photo shoot of three girls battling cancer went viral, photographer Lora Scantling has taken more beautiful snaps — this time showing the girls cancer-free.
“The original photo was inspired because my stepdad was losing his battle to lung cancer and I wanted to do something that would make a difference / speak a thousand words and decided to do childhood cancer because I also have a friend who had lost her baby boy to cancer,” Scantling told website GoodHousekeeping.com.
Rheann Franklin, now 9, Ainsley Peters, now 7, and Rylie Hughey, now 6, were all hugging one another tightly.
Now Scantling has decided to do a photo shoot of the girls every year for as long as they like.
“They’re inspiring to so many that I’m happy to keep taking photos for the rest of their lives, she tells PEOPLE. “Besides an annual photo shoot, I’d love to take pictures of their high school graduations, their weddings, all of their biggest milestones. To have them all alive and doing well is wonderful. It’s like they’re family now.”
