British millionaire financier and environmentalist Ben Goldsmith, 38, has written a heartbreaking note on Twitter after the death of his daughter Iris Annabel, 15, on Monday.
Mr Goldsmith was said to be at a cricket match when he got a phone to say his girl had been injured in a ‘quad bike’ accident at their Somerset, UK, home.
At the time her injuries weren’t thought to be life threatening but Ben sped away from the game with his sons Frank, 13, and Isaac, 11.
The vehicle Iris was riding with a friend is thought to be a ‘ranger vehicle’ – a cross between a quad bike and a small Jeep.
Iris Annabel was airlifted to hospital but later died, leaving her family ‘devastated.’
Today Ben Goldsmith wrote a heartbreaking tweet about his girl’s tragic death.
‘Dear God, please can I have my beautiful, brilliant, kind little girl back, please God. And if not, please take extra special care of her. I love her so so much and I’m so proud of her. It hurts me so much I can’t describe,’ he wrote.
Mr Goldsmith separated from Iris Annabel’s mum, Kate, 37, in 2012 with whom he also had sons Frank and Isaac. They are said to have a joint fortune of almost $540 million. Iris Annabel was heir to both the Goldsmith and Rothschild dynasties – two powerful British families who not only have money but power and influence in politics – and the niece of Conservative MP Zac Goldsmith.
A family friend told the Daily Mail that Iris Annabel was a ‘firecracker.’
‘This is the most awful accident. Iris was a complete firecracker – an absolute delight. Everyone in the family loved her to bits. She was beautiful, charming, intelligent, wonderful company and absolutely the loveliest person you could meet.’
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed: ‘We were called at about 3.15pm on Monday July 8 to a farm in the North Brewham area following the sudden death of a teenage girl.’
