A man has been charged after allegedly attempting to suffocate a 10-month-old baby.

The 22-year-old is also suspected of sexually assaulting a woman in a domestic violence-related incident.

The man was arrested after police were called to a house in Schofields, in Sydney’s northwest, in the early hours of Sunday.

The baby and the woman, 25, were taken to Blacktown Hospital for treatment.

It’s alleged the man attempted to suffocate the baby twice, police say.

“It will be further alleged he choked a 25-year-old woman and sexually assaulted her twice earlier that day,” NSW Police said in a statement.

The 22-year-old was charged with three counts of intentionally choke person with recklessness (DV) and two counts of sexual intercourse without consent (DV).

The 22-year-old is due to face court today.
