A baby boy has died after being thrown from a bridge into a river.
According to The Sun, a man – who is believed to be the baby’s dad – has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
It’s reported that the infant, who was 11-months-old, was thrown into the River Irwell in Greater Manchester, Britain.
Emergency services arrived on to the scene at 4.25pm on Wednesday (12 September) and rushed the boy to hospital.
Sadly, despite best efforts to save him, he died a short time after arriving at hospital.
The Sun reported that eye-witnesses saw the baby being thrown in a Moses basket off the bridge.
The 22-year-old man then walked into the pub and asked if he could sit down, without buying a drink.
He was arrested minutes later when police arrived.
Police are treating the matter as a domestic incident,
Detective Superintendent James Daniel was quoted on The Metro saying, ‘This is an incredibly tragic incident that has led to an innocent baby boy losing his life and we are doing everything we can to support family at this unimaginably devastating time.’
He added, ‘A murder investigation is underway and we are working hard to piece together the circumstances that led to the baby boy ending up in the water.’
The arrested man is currently in custody for questioning.
