Strapped for cash or just struggling for ideas? Check out these 7 budget-friendly ways to share the love on Valentine’s Day!
1. Put it in writing
Buy a plain white mug and draw on it using an oil-based paint Sharpie. Write a meaningful quote, a personalised message, or something funny, such as ‘I love you a whole latte’ or ‘You’re my cup of tea’. To make the mug dishwasher proof, put in a cool oven (around 160°C) for 30 minutes, then allow to cool overnight.
2. Romantic walk
Go for a romantic evening stroll along the beach or through a local park. Stick love notes or little gifts on the trees or under rocks beforehand for your partner to find along the way.
3. Heart-shaped cakes
Place cupcake liners in a muffin tin and fill with batter, but place a marble between the liner and the tin for each one. The marble makes the cupcake into a heart shape.
4. Fill a mug
Fill a funny or pretty mug with little things, such as $2 scratchies, heart-shaped chocolates, a lottery ticket and a love note. Tie a colourful ribbon around it.
5. Book a dance class
Many ballroom and Latin dance studios offer the first lesson for free, or for a reduced cost. You may even get hooked! Check your local paper or online for classes in your area.
6. Edible bouquet
Thread strawberries onto bamboo skewers, dip them in chocolate and set them in the fridge. Present your beloved with a bunch of ‘edible flowers’. This doubles as a dessert!
7. Frame him
Buy a plain white photo frame, write a heartfelt message on it with a permanent pen, and pop in your favourite photo of you as a couple.
