An ‘evil’ mum has been accused of murdering her three-year-old and nine-year-old sons.
Police say that Sara Franco Tapia, 32, killed the two brothers on October 12 in Cullman County, Alabama.
This week, Tapia was charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of Alvaro Garcia, 3, and Taylor Garcia, 9.
The Cullman Times reported that Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry said the boys died following an attack by their mother.
Gentry said there was no evidence Tapia had experienced mental health issues before the alleged murders, stating, ‘You just can’t cover up mean and evil.’
Although a knife was found nearby the crime scene, it’s not been revealed how the brothers died.
It’s reported their father called police to the home on the night of the murders.
Tapia was found in a field a short time later, suffering from self-inflicted knife wounds. Police took her to a nearby hospital.
Gentry said that the discovery of the boys’ bodies was ‘horrific for first time responders.’
He added, ‘You prepare yourself in law enforcement for certain things, but children is something you can never prepare yourself for.’
It’s currently unclear what was the motive for the alleged killing.
