The mother of one-year-old twins who died after being left in their dad’s car, has spoken out and defended her partner.
Juan Rodriguez, 39, was charged with manslaughter when he left his children, Phoenix and Luna, in a car in New York for eight hours.
The babies’ mother, Marissa Rodriguez, has spoken out about their tragic deaths, describing it as ‘my absolute worst nightmare.’
According to New York Post reports, Rodriguez, ‘forgot’ that his twins were in the hot Honda Accor.
He thought he had dropped them off at daycare and went to work a shift at Bronx Veterans Affairs hospital on Friday (26 July), leaving the bubs in the vehicle.
In a statement to NBC, Ms Rodriguez, said, ‘Though I am hurting more than I ever imagined possible, I still loved my husband.
‘He is a good person and great father and I know he would’ve never done anything to hurt our children intentionally.’
Stating that she’ll stand by his side, she added, ‘I know that he will never forgive himself for this mistake. This was a horrific accident, and I need him by my side to go through this together.’
Mr Rodriguez reportedly told investigators, ‘I blanked out, my babies are dead, I killed my babies.’
According to reports, the twins were found dead and foaming at the mouth in the back of a car.
It’s said that he only realised the babies were inside after he had driven for two blocks.
Mr Rodriguez pleaded not guilty to the manslaughter charges and has been released on bail.
He is due to return to court on August 1.
Friends told the New York Post that Mr Rodriguez is ‘an amazing guy’ and dedicated father.
