Maybe it’s us, or maybe we’ve overheard it, but the tell-tale grunt in the bathroom is a part of every day life.
Normally we wouldn’t bring it up – except some medical experts are saying it may be more helpful to keep quiet when working through last night’s dinner.
Two doctors in Denmark have found that roughly a third of people grunt while using the loo, and while it’s not bad for you, you may get out of there faster if you keep it to yourself.
‘Basically, it is all about pressure,’ Jan Fallingborg, a senior consultant at Aarhus University Hospital’s gastroentorolgy department, told Denmark’s MetroXpress paper.
‘That pressure decreases when we let air and noise out of our mouth. Therefore the release of forced sounds should have the opposite effect.’
Enjoy that fact the next time you need to drop the kids off at the pool!
