We’re always on the hunt for the next ‘superfood’ – already we have heard of quinoa, kale, and goji berries. But these food have nothing on this next new thing – cockroach milk – which (according to scientists in India) has four times the nutrition of cow’s milk.
It all comes down to ‘protein crystals’ that form in the milk of the Pacific beetle cockroach and according to the author of the study, Sanchari Banerjee told Times of India, ‘The crystals are like a complete food — they have proteins, fats and sugars. If you look into the protein sequences, they have all the essential amino acids.’
But never fear – you don’t have to start drinking the creepy cream. Researchers are trying to make the protein crystals in a lab – far away from any actual cockroaches.
Would you give cockroach milk a try?
