Everyone loves taking a ride on the wild side sometimes by indulging in a tiny bit of fast food – and yes, we already know it’s not always the healthiest option.
But it seems there’s a lot we don’t know about how bad some famous fast-food items really are. Anonymous fast food workers took to Reddit yesterday and revealed some pretty grim, disgusting secrets about their respective food chains.
Here are a few notable mentions you might want to skip next time you hit the drive-thru:
Gravy
Potato and gravy has always been popular with the masses. But what if we told you it wasn’t actually “gravy” you were eating?
Employees have revealed so-called gravy is actually dregs taken from the bottom of the fryer, and warned the public to stay well clear.
‘It is primarily made of the filthy oil that stores up on the bottom of the cookers over the day and is then served to customers the next day,’ a former cook said.
‘Also the ‘potato’ in potato and gravy is literally just flour, there is no potato at all whatsoever.’
Salads
Sure, go ahead and make a healthy choice by ordering a salad – except perhaps when you visit a fast food chain.
A former employee warned against ordering salads because they ‘are an item that rarely moves, so re-stickering them is a daily routine.’
That “fresh” salad you’re expecting could actually be days old.
Ice
What? Are you serious? We have to worry about ice now? Apparently so, and after reading these revelations, you’ll start worrying, too.
Fast food workers have advised customers to order drinks without ice because the ice machines are rarely cleaned. It can’t be that bad though, right?
Wrong.
‘I can’t tell you the number of ice machines I’ve seen with mould and dead flies in the bottom,’ one employee said.
‘Those machines contain more mould and slime than you want to guess at,’ another employee revealed.
Dipped Soft Serve Ice-Cream
Next time you order a soft serve, skip on the topping.
A former fast food worker revealed the chocolate topping was left out in the open all day, and when the top layer congeals, ‘they just mix that s**t back up and still use it.’
‘Not to mention… we sprayed the trays off next to the chocolate, so God knows how many chemicals get into it.’
