One of Australia’s most iconic Westfield complexes has reportedly been hit by an emergency, with a major flood shutting down access.
According to the Daily Mail, the Westfield shopping centre on Sydney’s Pitt Street has been sealed off due to safety issues, with workers warned to stay away.
An email reportedly issued to staff reads, ‘it is recommended not to come into work today because there is a flood in the basement closing the building.’
Sydney Tower Eye, which operates in the same complex, released the following advice: ‘Please be advised that due to flooding, Westfield Shopping Centre is currently closed, therefore access to the Observation Deck is also closed. Please check our page and/or website for any updates. Thank you for your patience.’
Twitter has lit up with reports about the drama.
It is believed the centre will likely be closed for the whole day, with the cause of the flood currently unknown.
Westfield has yet to issue a statement on the matter.
