When this young woman was spotted on the streets of Rome she stood out.
She apparently refuses to accept money, and will only speak English, leading people to believe she is not a local.
But without any paperwork, this English-speaking young woman who answers to ‘Maria’ is yet to be officially identified.
This curious case has led people to openly speculate online who she really is. Some have even gone so far as to suggest she is, in fact, a grown Madeleine McCann.
Madeleine McCann went missing in Portugal while on holiday with her parents in 2007, aged 4. Her disappearance was highly publicised, with her photo shared widely as her parents desperately searched for their little girl.
Since Madeleine’s disappearance 9 years have passed – leading critics to argue that Maria is too old to be Madeleine McCann.
