Jill Meagher’s killer has been bashed during a vicious prison brawl at his maximum-security protection unit in Melbourne.
Adrian Bayley, 47, was involved in a three-minute long fight with another killer of young women – Steven Hunter – who murdered Jacqueline Mathews and Sarah Cafferkey.
The fight between the murderers took place at Barwon Prison on May 10, ending with Bayley, 47, inflicting head injuries on 54-year-old Hunter.
Michael Gleeson from Corrections Victoria told news.com.au ‘a prisoner was taken to hospital following an incident’ at the jail.
The inmate has since returned to his cell.
Irish-born Jill Meagher, 29, disappeared on a walk home after having drinks with colleagues in Melbourne in September 2012.
Her body was found six days later.
Bayley later pleaded guilty to Jill’s rape and murder and was sentenced to life behind bars with a non-parole period of 35 years.
Hunter was jailed for the 1986 murder of 18-year-old schoolgirl Jacqueline Matthews, and killed 22-year-old Sarah Cafferkey while on parole in 2012.
