According to Kansas court documents, Lawrence John Ripple walked into the bank and handed the teller a note which read that he had a gun, and to give him cash.

After taking $3000 from the teller, he told the security guard that he was the one the police were looking for, before sitting quietly in the lobby.

In a radio interview, Ripple’s wife says he began acting strangely following a fight they had over a broken dryer. She said she had never seen him like this in their 33-year marriage.
