The 22-year-old passed away peacefully in her sleep after a 8-month battle with Metastatic gastric ovarian cancer, according to a Facebook post from her mum, Patti last night.
Waking early one morning in April, the young woman was worried when she felt it difficult to breathe. The symptoms eventually led to diagnosis of an aggressive form of ovarian cancer.
Desperate to raise her friend’s spirits, Australian rugby sevens star Mahalia Murphy, posted a plea to Facebook on Monday night.
‘URGENT REQUEST!!! Any assistance to boost my friend up? She is currently in Prince of Wales hospital and has roughly four hours to live as she’s fighting cancer,’ she wrote.
’She wants Greg Inglis or Beau Ryan To come see her. If everyone can share this or get in contact for me this would be much appreciated.’
Beau received the message and left a family dinner in Shellharbour to travel to Kia’s bedside at the Prince of Wales hospital.
Kia’s father says he had not seen his girl so happy in months.
Kia’s family have asked for privacy while funeral arrangements are made.
