Battling non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Lucy McDonnell-Jones, 41, was devastated when she found out she only had three months to live.

‘I was having chemotherapy for 12 hours a day,’ she said. ‘When that didn’t work they did it for 20 hours a day straight into my spine.’

It was during Lucy’s nine-month treatment that her heartless husband of 18 years, Nicky, 44, presented her with divorce papers.

Their marriage had been on the rocks for some time, but Lucy decided this really wasn’t a good time to sign on the dotted line.

‘When I had all that going on I didn’t care about divorce. I didn’t think I was going to make it,’ Lucy admits.

Thankfully, Lucy did make it and was discharged from hospital.

Arriving home, Lucy found a letter addressed to her from the local court.

‘When I called them, they said it was about a divorce. I said I hadn’t applied for a divorce and they advised me to go to a solicitor,’ she recalls.

It turned out Nicky had forged her signature on the divorce papers, and Lucy believed it was so he could walk away with their two homes and life savings.

After she called in police, Nicky was charged with forging Lucy’s signature on the documents.

In March this year, Nicky Mark Jones pleaded guilty to making a false document with intent it be accepted as genuine. He was sentenced to eight months in jail.

While Lucy is relieved to be alive, she’s still in shock that the man she trusted would stoop so low.

‘The person I married, I didn’t really know,’ she said.
