Legendary Elvis Presley drummer D.J. Fontana has passed away in his sleep at the age of 87 on Wednesday night.

Fontana’s son, David Fontana took to Facebook to share the heartbreaking news: ‘I told everyone that I would keep you posted. My dad passed away in his sleep at 9:33 tonight. He was very comfortable with no pain. I will post more tomorrow when I have more information. We ask for privacy at this time. Thank you for your love and prayers.’

Born in 1931, Dominic Joseph Fontana began working with Elvis in 1954, supporting Elvis for 14 years and can be heard on over 460 of Presley’s songs, including classic hit “Jailhouse Rock”.

He was inducted into the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame in 2009.

Fontana marked the last surviving member of Elvis’s backing trio with Bassist, Bill Black passing away of a brain tumour in 1965, aged 39 along with guitarist Scotty Moore who died in June 2016 aged 84.

Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.
