After having a mini-stroke and suffering from osteoporosis, Gary Rosheisen was left wheelchair-bound.
Although he had an emergency call button on his bed, he tried to teach his cat, Tommy, to call emergency on speed dial.
Gary had no idea if the training worked, but kept his phone on the floor where Tommy could reach it just in case.
Then one day, when police received an emergency call from Gary’s apartment but discovered nobody on the other end of the phone, they conducted a welfare check.
Walking into Gary’s lounge room, Officer Patrick Daugherty found the cat lying next to the phone, and Gary on the floor in his bedroom having fallen from his wheelchair.
Gary couldn’t reach the button or phone, so Tommy must’ve ‘pawsed’ to make the call. ‘He’s my hero,’ said Gary.
