A mentally ill man’s parents locked him in a cage for more than a 30 years because they thought he was possessed.
The 39-year-old man from South China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region had been living in a dark cage since the 1980s.
He was freed from his cage after locals filmed him and alerted authorities.
The man’s mother, Li Lianying, says she and her husband “reluctantly” locked him up more than three decades ago.
His strange behaviour as a child led them to think he was possessed by an evil spirit.
Rather than getting advice from medical professionals, they locked him inside a cage and fed him through the metal bars.
He was taken to hospital after he was discovered and was declared extremely malnourished.
It is not yet known whether his parents will be charged with abuse.
