Man sends text allegedly meant for hitman about killing his wife to the WRONG person

Blames it on his 4-year-old daughter.

A father has been arrested after police discover text messages sent to a person called ‘Shayne’ saying the sender is going to ‘take [him] up on the offer’ to help ‘kill my wife’.

The messages were sent from Jeff Lytle’s mobile phone, who was charged with criminal solicitation for murder in the first degree.

The plot was discovered when the text messages were received not by ‘Shayne’ but by Lytle’s former boss, who then called the police.

Records received by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office reveal the texts contained details of Lytle’s wife’s insurance policy, an offer to split it 50/50, a ‘bonus’ for killing his daughter too, and a suggestion to ‘make it look like a robbery gone wrong’.

“Hey Shayne hows it going. You remember you said that you would help me kill my wife. I’m going to take you up on that offer.”

“– life insurance is worth 1 million and if you want a bounes you can kill [JL]. Her life insurance is 500K.”

“—if you can make it look like a robbery gone wrong or make it a accident she works at Walmart she gets off at 11:00.”

“I’ll split everything with the insurance 50/50”

According to KIRO 7 Lytle told investigators he wrote the messages to ‘vent’ but never meant to send them.

He even suggested his four-year-old daughter might have sent them instead.
