Believing a man had stolen from her, Arkansas mum Janet Partain went to his house to speak to him about it, with her 14-year-old son and 15-year-old nephew in tow.
She said that as the conversation became heated, Joseph Avellino, 34, aimed a crossbow at the boys, and when the shot was fired she dived in front of it.
The arrow pierced through her cheek and out the other side of her head.
‘I pushed them out the way and I got hit,’ she told WREG-TV.
‘I think I was in shock because once I got hit I said, “I can’t believe you almost shot that kid.”’
Incredibly, Janet, 40, was able to drive herself to hospital.
Avellino was charged with battery and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Cross County Sheriff’s Office Captain Jeff Nichols said it ‘was an odd sight to see someone with an arrow in their face and they’re still conscious and talking to me.’
