Canadian search teams have found the body of a missing Australian hiker in a river near a treacherous waterfall, three months after she disappeared.

Sophie Dowsley, 34, and her Canadian partner, Gregory James Tiffin, disappeared on July 10 while hiking near Statali Falls, a scenic but rugged wilderness area in British Colombia.

Mr Tiffin, 44, was found at the base of the falls on July 19 and Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesman Mike Rail said search and rescue teams never gave up, despite dangerous rapid water conditions.

Ms Dowsley’s family members, who went to Canada to help in the search, acknowledged Canadian rescue teams were risking their lives performing ‘one of the most dangerous search and recovery operations’ they have conducted.

Canadian Police announced the discover on Wednesday after confirming Ms Dowsley’s identity.

Foul play is not suspected.
