The widowed pensioner placed the ad after the sad passing of his fishing buddy, and asked if there was anyone who would like to go fishing with him.

The ad was placed on the popular classified site, Gumtree, and soon took off! Before Ray knew it he was overwhelmed with responses.

Among them, is the astonishing offer from Brisbane fishermen Mati Batsinilas, 22, who offered to fly Ray to Queensland for an all-expenses fishing trip around Stradbroke Island.

‘This is just something where I feel like I can help and I do it with passion. I want him to have the best experience of his life,’ he told The Advertiser.

Ray is expected to travel up with his grandson, Ivan, and go fishing with Mati and his brother Peter.

Ray Johnstone received and overwhelming response.
