Teenage girl killed in car crash comforts her mother weeks after her death with letters she wrote months ago.
Cindy Mathis was devastated at the end of 2016 when her 16-year-old daughter, Macy, died in hospital from injuries she’s sustained after being in a car accident.
Struggling with grief, Cindy came across some letters Macy had given her as part of her birthday present earlier in the year.
Labelled with instructions like ‘Open when you feel lonely’ and ‘Open when it’s your birthday!’ was one envelope that read ‘Open when you miss me.’
Inside was a message from her girl, more comforting than she could ever have anticipated.
‘Hey mommy,’ it begins.
‘I’m sorry that you’re missing me. I hope wherever you are or whatever you’re doing you’re okay.
‘I’m probably missing you too. I honestly don’t like being away from the house for too long.
‘I will always and forever love you mommy. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me.’
Cindy came across the letters while clearing out her car a month after her girl died.
Among the notes was one from Macy’s boyfriend, Adam Sattler, who also lost his life in the crash.
‘You’re the best thing that ever happened to me,’ it read.
‘I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you. I love you immensely.’
