An anti-vax mum has complained it is ‘not fair’ she is being excluded because of her controversial views.
Byron Bay woman Katharina Gorka told ABC’s 7.30 report she feels like she is unfairly treated, after her unvaccinated son was banned from enrolling in pre-school.
‘I don’t think it’s fair, to be honest,’ Ms Gorka said of the judgement she receives for her decision not to immunise.
‘It makes me feel like we’re a bit secluded from society.’
Byron Bay on NSW’s northern coast is a hotspot for the anti-vaccination movement, with a staggering third of all children unvaccinated.
Ms Gorka told the show her son’s preschool refused to enrol him because he was not vaccinated.
‘I have a set opinion on vaccinations and that’s not gonna change,’ she added.
Vaccinations protect young children from 16 serious infections including measles, mumps, rubella, whooping cough, diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis, haemophilus influenzae type B disease, hepatitis B, rotavirus, chickenpox, meningococcal disease, influenza and pneumococcal disease.
Under the new NSW state government policy ‘No Jab, No Play’, unvaccinated children are banned from being enrolled in preschools.
This is because the children of anti-jab parents pose a threat to those children who are vaccinated.
