A mother has died of a ‘broken heart’ after her own husband allegedly raped and strangled their six-year-old daughter.
Anna Subko, 27, was at work when her daughter Veronika was found hanging from a fence near the family home in Rostov-on-Don, Russia.
Father-of-two Yaroslav Oleinikov, 28, was arrested and charged with the rape and murder of Veronika, who was found with her favourite toy, a rattle, wrapped around her neck.
Forensic examinations revealed the little girl had been sexually assaulted repeatedly before she was killed, according to Russian news outlet Donday.
Following her daughter’s death, Anna was reportedly deprived of parental rights of her son Ivan.

She then fell into a ‘severe depression’ and her health grew worse when she was diagnosed with pneumonia.
Her terrible mental state made the mother-of-two ‘indifferent’ to her physical health.
Anna did not seek medical help until it was too late – and she died six months after the death of her beautiful daughter.
Oleinikov is due to stand trial for his daughter’s rape and murder and faces up to 20 years behind bars.

Can you die of a broken heart?
York and Stirling university researchers say grieving families are up to four times more likely to die in the 10 years following the death of a child.
Other studies suggest there is a similar devastating effect after the death of a partner – which is known as dying of a ‘broken heart’.
It was found that stress generated from a death can lead to a ‘suppression of the immune system’, which ‘thereby increases one’s propensity to disease’.
