REAL LIFE

My hubby’s ghost was caught on camera

It came out of the blue. We were having lunch with friends, when my husband Phil started talking about an accident he predicted he’d have.

‘I’ll be hit by a red 4×4 driven by a woman,’ he said.

He even envisaged the date, 10 December 2004 – just eight months away! Phil, 48, had always been an intuitive soul but this was something else.

‘Stop it,’ I told him. ‘We’ve just had a baby. I don’t want to hear about accidents.’ With that, I tried to put his words to the back of my mind.

Phil and baby Phoebe.

I was 18 when Phil and I met and I soon realised he had a gift for the paranormal. ‘Dying doesn’t worry me,’ he always told me. He was sure there was life after death. Even so, his prediction was unsettling and when the date came and went, I was relieved. But my solace was short-lived.

On 22 December 2004, I got a call about a major accident.

‘Your husband has been taken to hospital,’ I was told. ‘He died three times at the scene and is in a coma.’

Racing to Phil’s side with our 11-month-old daughter, Phoebe, I couldn’t believe it. Phil was unconscious and in a bad way. The doctors said they didn’t think he would make it. I felt my world fall apart. And as the details came out, it was even more shocking.

Phil had been hit by a red 4×4 driven by a woman who’d lost control. It was just 12 days after he predicted…

Over the next two-and-a-half weeks Phil clung to life, but in January 2005, tragedy struck. He passed away as a result of his injuries.

As I said my goodbyes, I couldn’t help but feel it wasn’t the end. I was devastated, but even as I sat at home, I could feel Phil all around me.

That evening, some mates came round and we held a candlelit vigil for Phil on the deck of our place. One of our friends snapped some photos.

A few days later, my friend looked them over and got the shock of her life.

You’ve got to see these, she wrote in an email. They’re unbelievable.

As I looked at the attached images, I began to understand. In one, the house – which had been dark – was lit up, and coming through the window was the outline of an extra person who shouldn’t have been there.

I got a graphic designer friend to take a look and he removed the brightness around the ghostly figure. What he revealed made him jump off his chair in fright. Phil’s face was unmistakable. It was the spirit of my husband, I just knew it. I was totally freaked out but in a strange way comforted too.

‘He always said he’d prove there was a life after death,’ I gulped. ‘I guess he’s done that.’

It’s been ten years since his death now and Phoebe and I still feel Phil all the time. And we still have that picture to remind us he stayed with us.

That’s the most amazing gift he could ever have given.
