An expecting mother was left horrified and angry after friends mocked her baby name choice, claiming it sounds like a dog’s name.
The woman, who identified herself as Katy H, took to an online parenting forum to ask for advice on her unusual name for a boy.
Katy told users she and her partner settled on the name ‘Huxley’, but have been told by friends and family it is more fitting for a canine.
‘I know it doesn’t matter what others think, but… We’ve fallen in love with the name Huxley but whenever I tell anyone they pull a face and say it’s a dog’s name,’ Katy wrote on netmums.
‘I’m trying to stick to what my partner and I like but it’s so disheartening. Can you just ignore negative opinions or should I be listening to them?’
Many people commented in support of Katy’s interesting name choice.
‘I wouldn’t worry about what others think! Our son is named Zeus, everybody hated it at first, people was saying things like your naming him after a god, my dog/horse is called Zeus etc,’ one person said.
Another advised the pregnant woman to avoid discussing baby names until the child is born.
‘My advice is never ever reveal baby names before the baby is born and don’t get into a baby name discussion, if they do mention names that aren’t on your list,’ the user wrote.
‘People are generally less rude when baby is born.’
