A first date went about as poorly as possible when a man decided to sue his companion for the cost of a movie ticket after she texted during the screening of Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2.
Speaking to the American Statesman, Brandon Vezmar, 37, says he filed the claim for $17.31 after his date – who has asked to remain unnamed – texted repeatedly during the screening.
Describing it as ‘a first date from hell’ Vezmar says she texted from her phone at least 10 to 20 times. When he asked her to stop she left the theater and since they’d driven there in her car he was stranded without a ride.
Contacted by the Statesmen, the woman says:
‘I had my phone low and I wasn’t bothering anybody. It wasn’t like constant texting.’
Vezmar then took it upon himself to retrieve the cost of the ticket he had bought for his date that evening. Explaining in his petition that:
‘While damages sought are modest, the principle is important as defendant’s behavior is a threat to civilized society.’
The date is refusing to pay however, and is reportedly considering taking a protective order out against the man who has contacted her – and her sister – attempting to retrieve the $17.31.
Talk about a terrible first date!
