A man who woke from a dream to find his wife lifeless and bloody has been charged for murder.
Matthew Phelps, called North Carolina emergency services to report his wife’s death.
From the call to 911 it is believed the husband claimed responsibility for her death before he shifted his reasoning to cough medicine he had taken before bed.

After the operator questioned further, he stated: ‘I had a dream and then I turned on the lights and she’s dead on the floor’
‘There’s blood all over me, and there’s a bloody knife on the bed. I think I did it.’
Police discovered 29-year-old Lauren Ashley-Nicole Phelps body with multiple stab wounds and was rushed to hospital before being pronounced dead.
Matthew, an aspiring pastor, and Lauren had been married for less than a year.
Phelps is currently being held without bail and is set to appear in court.
