The grandmother of a six-year-old boy who died after attending a ‘slapping therapy’ workshop in Sydney two years ago has now been charged with his manslaughter.
The boy’s father, 56, and mother, 41, were already charged with manslaughter last week, with 9 News now reporting his 64-year-old grandmother has been charged with the same offence.
The boy, who was diabetic, died after reportedly being taken to a week-long self-healing conference in April 2015 which involved controversial slapping therapy.
Slapping therapy is a form of alternative Chinese therapy which involves slapping a patient until they are bruised to rid the body of toxins or illnesses.
On the night of April 28, emergency services were called to a Hurstville hotel after the boy was found in an unconscious state, but he couldn’t be revived.
His grandmother is due to appear in court on May 11.
