Gynecologists are mortified at the latest in a series of bizarre vaginal trends where women are buying capsules of glitter to insert into their private parts during sex.
The company manufacturing the glitter – branded as ‘Passion Dust’ – describe it as ‘a small capsule that you insert into your vagina and allow it to naturally dissolve and release it’s contents’.
Doctors, instead, are calling it a recipe for all sorts if problems including abrasions, thrush, and inflammation.
‘Using a product like this so called passion dust might actually kill off any passion at all,’ obstetrician and gynaecologist Shazia Malik told The Independent.
The capsules containing the glitter are made of starch and gelatin, which can disrupt the natural pH of the vagina, increasing the risk of fungal infections.

Glitter – even fine grains – can irritate the vaginal walls and cause inflammation and infection.
‘Even worse it’s possible that some glitter pieces may even migrate up through the cervix in to the womb lining and have exactly the same effects there.’

The manufacturers of Passion Dust wave away such concerns saying that we put more dangerous glitter on our faces all the time and don’t freak out about it.
‘Scientifically, you have already inhaled or ingested more hazardous ‘glitter’ and chemicals than what is in our capsules,’ it reads. ‘You have not gotten sick from those chemicals.’
We remain unconvinced.
