Her ex’s ‘slip of the tongue’ inspired this woman to make an incredible change

He called her fat - but look at her now!

Hayley Westoby, now 25, was in her first year studying marketing when a diet of booze and junk food made her weight climb to a dizzying 119 kg.

‘It had been a gradual thing since starting university, where I gained the ‘Fresher 10’ and then some thanks to my student diet of junk food and booze,’ says Hayley.

She says it wasn’t until a fight with an ex boyfriend that she realised how much she had gained. During the fight he said ‘lose some weight.’

Committing to losing 5kg, this young woman became interested in fitness and nutrition and kept seeing the weight come off.
‘Now I’ve lost 65 kilos completely naturally and am so proud of what I’ve achieved. I’ll never be embarrassed by my body again.’

Hayley says quitting alcohol was key, but it hasn’t impacted her social life.

She said: ‘People don’t realise how many calories and how much sugar is in that glass of wine or beer that they love.

‘It was hard to quit at first, as I’ve always been a social person. But I realised that I could still go out with the girls and not drink.

‘Most of the time, people don’t even notice I’m not drinking as my soda water and lime looks no different to what everyone else has in their hands.’

She has no hard feelings toward the ex who brought up her weight, either.

‘If my ex hadn’t made that comment, I don’t know if I would have been where I am today. I’m thankful for it leading me on the journey I’m on.’
