Dozens of people are feared dead after two gunmen opened fire in two different mosques in Christchurch.
The suspected terrorists stormed Al Noor Mosque and Linwood Masjid mosque on Friday.
At least 27 people are believed to have been killed during the two shootings, one of which was livestreamed to Facebook by the gunman.
One witness reportedly saw a five-year-old child dead inside one of the mosques, News.com.au reports.
One of the gunmen has identified himself as ‘Brenton Tarrant’ – a 28-year-old Australian man – who livestreamed for 17 minutes as he shot victims in the mosque, according to the New Zealand Herald.
He also wrote a 73-page manifesto declaring his intentions online.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has described the attacks as ‘one of New Zealand’s darkest days’.
‘My thoughts, and I’m sure the thoughts of all New Zealanders, are with those who have been affected, and also with their families,’ she said.
‘My thoughts are also to those in Christchurch, who are still dealing with an unfolding situation.’
A witness at the Linwood Ave mosque told Radio NZ there were up to 110 people during the shooting,13 reportedly injured.
