A paid job on a private island off the coast of San Francisco is up for grabs.
A search has been launched for the new keepers of the East Brother Light Station, which sits on a 0.7-acre island.
Current keepers, Che Rodgers and Jillian Meeker, are leaving their position after two years and the coveted job is now open.
The $180,000-a-year role was advertised online asking for a couple to operate the lighthouse inn, which is open four days a week.
‘The successful candidates will be a couple, one of whom must possess a Coast Guard commercial boat operator’s license. They will operate the five-room inn, serving both dinner and breakfast, as well as providing ferry service for guests and all other tasks from chef to maid,’ the listing read.
‘High-quality culinary experience and capability will be a critical qualification. The inn is open four days a week, and the island is also available for day use and special events. The new keepers will start in mid-April 2019, allowing two weeks for training.’
Successful candidates are also compensated with free rent and a health plan.
The lighthouse has been in operation since 1874 and has been a bed and breakfast since 1979.
The island itself is only a ten-minute boat-ride away from the US mainland but is described as being ‘a world away’.
By January 6, the current keepers posted on Facebook to say they had received thousands of messages and applications for the incredible island job.
